FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...

How do I pick a therapist?

The most important ingredient for successful therapy is the relationship or working alliance that develops between you are the therapist.  For you to get a better sense of me, I offer an initial free telephone conversation.  There is no obligation to book therapy with me after this conversation.

How often do I need to come and for how long?

I offer both short and long term therapy.  Counselling works best with regular attendance.  Weekly sessions, without breaks, are particularly important for the first few weeks of therapy. Although I prefer to work in person, online sessions can also be offered.

We can agree an initial length of time, it could be short 6 - 8 weeks, mid 8 - 26 weeks or open ended.  This time frame can be reviewed and modified if necessary as therapy progresses.  We will discuss and agree the ending of our work together so we can prepare for our last session

How much will it cost?

My standard fee is £60 per 50 minute session. I prefer that payment is made by bank transfer prior to your session although credit card payments can also be taken at the session. I offer reduced rates to students and clients on low income. Please contact me for further details.

What happens in the first session?

In the first session we will discuss the terms of our sessions to ensure mutual understanding ensuring that we can work ethically and safely together.  I will answer questions you may have and will give you an opportunity to help me understand why you have chosen to come to therapy at this time.

Will you tell anyone what I have said in sessions with you?

Our sessions are confidential.  This confidentiality would only be broken in special circumstances if I thought there was a risk of harm to you or others.

As a registered BACP counsellor, I have clinical supervision to support my ethical practice.  Any discussion of my clients is anonymous and my supervisor adheres to the same principles of confidentiality.

What happens if I can't come?

We will discussed any planned holidays or missed sessions at the beginning of our work together.  Cancellations need to be made by text or email.  If a cancellation is made with 48 hours notice then no charge is made.  I will endeavour to give you 2 weeks notice if I need to cancel a session.

How do I organise my sessions?

As a first step - go to the contact page and click on the contact button.  I will email or text you (whichever you prefer) to arrange us to speak on the phone.  This will be a call of up to 20 minutes for you to decide if you would like to work with me.  If you do then I will let you know my availability and we can organise a first session.
